The Quantitative Methods course (Psych 317) that I took this semester has had a fair impact on my educational growth. My strengths in this course involved me having previous knowledge about statistics and statistical terms from a previous course. In order to build upon my strengths, I made sure to watch the lecture videos and read the textbook. My main weakness involved my math skills. To strengthen my math skills, I had visited the professor of the course multiple times to receive assistance regarding the course content. I also made sure to study the material, such as completed labs with corrections, so that I could get more comfortable with the content. I plan on taking the experiences I’ve had in this course and utilizing them to help me perform better in my future courses. More specifically, I am going to have better organizational skills as well as time management skills so that I can complete the coursework in an optimal fashion. As far as my future professional life goes, I am not sure what I would like to be yet, however, I am deciding between having a career as a research neuropsychologist and being a physical therapist. This course has provided me with sufficient experiences so that if I were to become a research neuropsychologist I would have background on how to use statistical software, how to set up an experiment, etc. If I was going to offer advice to a fellow student that would be taking this course, I would advise them to make sure they get his or her textbook on time so that they would not fall behind. In addition, I would suggest for them to pay attention to the lectures and take notes while either at lecture (in person) or watching the online videos (online course). I’d suggest for the student to immediately seek help if they get stuck on a certain subject. I would let the student know that they should expect to learn how statistics connects with the field of psychology and that one of the many challenges in this course consists of working through mathematical problems that are more applied in nature. To sum up, as long as the future student of this course is willing to apply himself or herself, they will succeed.
