The most beneficial experience I have had is with GFT Inc. as an Associate Analyst. Working with GFT, I have had the opportunity to leverage the skills and knowledge learned at ODU to build Governance Programs, perform risk assessments, and to engage with others in a professional environment. My biggest accomplishment with GFT has been building a large cyber asset inventory for a large industrial control system where we analyzed devices and how they communicate to build a FERC Compliant Inventory.

When developing this inventory, there were many weeks I had to fly out to site visits where I spent most of my week touring dams, powerhouses, and gauging stations collecting data alongside my colleagues. This was only half of the battle, as when we got back to the office the following week, we would extract the data and conduct research on every device located in the field. Since I was one of the main people conducting the site visits, I took a leadership role on the project and ended up leading the data extraction, all the way down to the validation meetings. We ended identifying thousands of cyber assets and had them all organized by location and function. I learned a lot about operational technology and ended up developing an interest in the field. The project has given me a strong understanding of an OT environment and steered my career path towards where it is today.
