A big part of cyberattacks have become scammers setting up fake websites and using it to steal user’s information and possibly money. There are a few ways to detect a fake website. A few of them include a different URL, grammatical errors, and deals that may be too good to be true.

Different URL

In this example the URL for Paypal was spelt as pay-pail.com which is an immediate indication that the website is fraudulent.

Grammatical Errors

In this example the website clearly misspelt the word “category.” This should be an immediate red flag since no legitimate company would put together a website with such obvious mistakes.

Overly Generous Deals

Everybody loves them a great deal and a popular way to shop for them is online. But it is important to be careful and make sure that the website you are shopping for is valid. As you can see, on the website on the left the deals are significantly better than the one on the right. Sometimes if you are shopping and the deals seem overly generous you may want to double-check to ensure the website you are on is legit.

Conclusion

Although there are plenty of other ways to tell whether or not a website is legit these are some great ways to validate the website. Taking extra precautions may seem overprotective but it may save you from becoming a cybercrime victim.
