The main reasons are entertainment, politics, revenge, boredom, recognition, money, and multiple reasons. My ranks for the in motives that make the most sense is money, politics, revenge, multiple reasons, recognition, entertainment, and boredom.

The reason that makes the most sense to me is money. There is a lot of currency or information that gets passed around digitally in today’s society. It makes the most sense that hackers have the capabilities to take a piece of that and possibly get away free then they would.

Political gain makes the next most sense to me. In the current world politics are such a prominent issue and are shown digitally the majority of the time. A lot of people have agendas they want pushed and it can be done through the internet whether it’s advertising, blackmailing, or stealing and leaking information that can be important in politics.

Revenge makes the 3rd most sense to me out of all the motives. Humans by nature want to seek revenge and get back at people for wronging them previously. And today there is no easier way to get somebody back than hurting their image online. Whether it is hacking their information and using it to harm their image or stealing something from them.

Multiple other reasons like the psychological state of the hacker makes sense to me. Some people have gone through a lot in their life and when it piles up it leads them to a life of crime. Many of the perpetrators getting lead to cybercrime like others we have seen correlate makes plenty of sense.

Many people love the idea of being famous and getting recognition. It would make sense to me that they would be using cybercrime to do so. The part that does not make sense is why they would choose such a high-risk crime to gain recognition.

Entertainment is one of the motives that make less sense to me. There are a lot of different hobbies and hacking is one of them. But doing that for fun does not make sense to me because there are jobs where you can be an ethical hacker and even competitions where you get to do these things. So, to go the illegal route does not render well with me.

Boredom makes no sense to me at all as a motive. I completely understand being bored in life and trying to find something to bring thrill to it. Hacking and harming others while putting your entire life and career at jeopardy is just something my mind cannot comprehend.

There are many different reasons why people would commit cybercrime.
