Journal Entry 5

Review the articles linked with each individual motive in the presentation page or Slide #4.  Rank the motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense (being 1) to the least sense (being 7).  Explain why you rank each motive the way you rank it.

The article that I think makes the least sense would be recognition (1). This article talks about a British kid who DDoSed a candidate’s website. This makes the least sense to me because why would somebody willingly do something illegal just for their name and information to be out there even more than what it is. The next article I find to make the least sense would be boredom (2). This article mainly talks about cyberbullying and grooming of children, which is a serious offense in today’s world. In my opinion It just doesn’t make sense to commit such an act out of the boredom of someone’s mind. The third article I read was the entertainment article (3). This article talks about a man who was behind multiple scraping incidents on the website LinkedIn. It was said that the man exploited about 700 million profiles “for fun”. I believe that it does not make a lot of sense to do illegal activities purely for fun or entertainment. Next, I would choose the article associated with revenge (4). This doesn’t make sense to me because of the association with porn victimization and letting out people’s information. The article about politics I would say is the next article in terms of sense (5). This article is about young hackers that joined together to create something of an operation. It makes somewhat of sense on why somebody would be influenced by this but still does not give a good enough reason on why somebody would engage in such activity. The article involving making money is in my opinion reasonable to a certain degree (6). Although the article talks about cyber criminals’ bad spending habits, there is some other information listed that cybercriminals do with the money. For example, investing, and purchasing needs rather than wants. Finally, the article pertaining to multiple reasons is the one I find most reasonable (7). Solely because the article talks about multiple reasons why somebody would commit cybercrimes. For example, ego, revenge, and money. Even though this article still lacks sensibility, Its the one that makes the most sense to me as I was reading it.
