Review of “Towards an Improved Understanding of Human Factors in Cybersecurity”

The article relates to the principals of the social sciences because it acknowledges the human factors in cybersecurity. Human factors associated with cyber security discuss the potential and limitations along with the interaction of humans towards computer devices. The article shares that in the workplace there is a growing focus on technology which is starting to eliminate attributes related to the human factor. The authors propose that in order to close the gap there must to be an intention to strengthen human factors, and we need to view cyber security from multiple ways to see where the improvements need to be made. The types of research that helped the authors develop their hypothesis can be described as descriptive research because surveys were taken into consideration to allow feedback along with case study and observation. In the research, the data that was compiled could be considered qualitative as they both appear in the article with abundant information regarding the number of surveys, theories, and other important information that was stated in the article.
The article relates to class because in this course so far through the discussion boards we have talked about social topics and how they relate to computer specific issues and this article can be thought of in that way. Where this article associates what the human factor has to offer while it has begun to get drowned out by a more technological focus.
This topic relates to the challenges, concerns, and contributions of marginalized groups because currently in the workplace, technology is taking the place of humans. Whether you see it visually at grocery stores with automated self-checkout services or in the technology field where a company will focus more of the budget on technological solutions rather than humans. Now that technology has started to take over humans will eventually acknowledge that they might become subordinate in the workplace.
The article provides some insight into how we can change the course that we are on if we intend to strengthen human factors, to view cyber security in an interdisciplinary approach to see where improvements need to be made and educate ourselves of the positives associated with the human factor.
