Linux Network Configuration

Through this artifact I developed my understanding of how Linux systems are configured to connect to and communicate over a network. This assignment expanded my Linux skills beyond command-line navigation and scripting by introducing me to network configuration. These skills developed my understanding on network troubleshooting, identifying configuration issues, and maintaining secure network environments.

Task A:

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Step 4:

Step 5:

Step 6 & 7:

Step 8:

Task B:

Step 1:  The main difference seen here between the first step in task A is that the eth0 section is missing.  The lo section has the same flags and inet and netmask.

Step 2: The difference here is that nothing is in the Kernel IP routing table.

Step 3: This step showed no differences, the output was the same.

Step 4:  Ping wasn’t able to work, it returned that there was a temporary failure in name resolution for this step.

Step 5: This output was different because it wasn’t said that ww.odu.edu was unreachable.  Instead of providing an IP address it was a lot of failed attempts.

Step 6 & 7: The hostname changed because of the change in step 8, the hostname is now my midas id, step 7 remained the same in output.
