Stage 1: Learning Goals/Targets

Lesson Title: The A Bomb
Time allotted: 1hr

VA SOL Objectives:
7.8.11 Describe the historical significance of the use of the atomic bomb

How will students demonstrate their understanding?

Learning Target (Knowledge):
Have the knowledge to explain where and why the Atomic Bomb was used,
Learning Target (Skills):
Comprehension of the atomic bomb

Stage 2: Assessment & Evidence  

Formative Assessment (Informal Assessments, such as worksheets, review games, warmups, kahoots, discussion)
Formal/Summative Assessments (ex. Quiz, tests, projects) *this is something turned in, graded, worth more

A comprehension question to be worked on in groups at the end of the notes.

Included in the WWII unit test.

Stage 3: Sequence of events of lesson (Agenda) *Make sure to include (Anticipatory set, activities, and closure)

I will ask pre knowledge questions to see what they think are some of the major events/inventions during WW II.
We will go over the Atomic Bomb notes and watch a short clip to review how the bomb works.
They will have a group discussions on critical thinking questions.

Prior Knowledge Needed: Major events and people during WWII

Materials Needed: Pen/pencil, the A bomb note sheet

Reflection of Lesson: The students were very engaged and asked very good questions related to the topic.
As a teacher I could have been a little more engaged with the group discussions but everything turned out very well.

Lesson Title:Great Depression Review
Time allotted:40 minutes

VA SOL Objectives: Describe the major effects of the Great Depression, and know major people during the Great Depression.

How will students demonstrate their understanding?

Learning Target (Knowledge):
I understand the major events and effects of the great depression.
Learning Target (Skills):
I understand how the stock market works.

Stage 2: Assessment & Evidence  

Formative Assessment (Informal Assessments such as worksheets, review games, warmups, kahoots, discussion)
Formal/Summative Assessments (ex. Quiz, tests, projects) *this is something turned in, graded, worth more

I have a review game to give a mental image of how the stock market works, then how the run on the backs crashes the stock market. After the activity i ask questions or say a person, and if they can describe it they get a piece of candy.
There is a unit test on the people effects of the great depression.

Stage 3: Sequence of events of lesson (Agenda) *Make sure to include (Anticipatory set, activities, and closure)

I ask the students to give a recap of what  happened in the Great Depression
We do my Stock Market Activity
They answer questions by describing the person or the effects of the Great Depression
They work on an achieve 3000 for the rest of class

Prior Knowledge Needed: General information about the Great Depression

Materials Needed: Laptop

Reflection of Lesson: The class got a little out of hand at the end of the activity but got re focused during the achieve 3000. If I do this again I would want to have more concentration during the activity.
