This semester in Sport Communication taught me a lot about how sports and media connect with each other. Before this class, I mostly thought sport communication was just about sports reporters or social media posts from teams and athletes. After taking this class, I realized there is a lot more that goes into it, like branding, public relations, interviews, and how teams interact with fans online.
One thing that really stood out to me was learning how much social media affects sports today. Fans are not just watching games anymore because they are also posting reactions, sharing highlights, and talking about sports online every day. This class helped me understand that anyone who posts about sports can be part of sport communication, even regular fans.
I also liked the hands-on assignments because they made the class feel more real and interactive. Some assignments helped me practice creating content and thinking about how teams or athletes communicate with the public. These activities showed me that communication is important in sports because one post or message can spread really fast online.
Another thing I learned is how important professionalism is when using social media. Athletes, teams, and even fans have to think carefully about what they post because it can affect how people see them. I think this lesson will help me in the future no matter what career I have because communication is important everywhere.
Overall, I enjoyed learning about the modern sport media environment and how much it has changed over time. This class gave me a better understanding of how sports organizations, athletes, and fans all connect through communication and media. I think the things I learned in this class will be useful for me in the future, especially when it comes to communication skills and using digital media professionally.
