The Culture

One way to learn about the people of the country is to learn about their culture and the way they greet and talk to each other. In, Chapter 1 of our studies, we talked about how the greeting styles of Americans and Spaniards and Latin Americans. In America, greeting some is mostly done by shaking hands and there is a personal space distance between each other. For Spaniards and Latin Americans, personal space is almost nonexistent. Greeting each other is done by one or two kisses on the check with a handshake or may a hug.

As a minister, you meet a lot of people for many different situations and occasions. Knowing how to greet them in their native way opens an opportunity to gain trust and a level of comfort needed in some situation. It brings a respect and awareness of who they are. As I meet with different people, cultures and races as a minister and also as a insurance claim assistant, this knowledge will help me increase my awareness of their culture and open a door to an experience that I probably wouldn’t have.
