NIETO Eportfolio Entry#2
Four other majors besides Cybersecurity that are offered at Old Dominion University that I believe relate to Cybersecurity are 1) Cyber Crime 2)Advance Engineering ( Cyber System Security) ,3) Computer science as well as 4) Criminology and Criminal Justice . First, the major known as cyber crime prepares people for jobs and law enforcement and information technology. This major of course requires its pursuers to take classes and courses in criminology, cybersecurity, and information technology. cybercrime in itself focuses on Tech related criminal justice issues and helps implement the enforcement within cyber laws as well as eating in computer crime investigations. students following this major will come out with knowledge of cybersecurity and computer networking.
The second major offer that ODU offers is Advanced Engineering( cyber system security). This major helps students understand possible cyber security threats and how they stand against computer systems and its infrastructure. This major helps students become knowledgeable of how to defend against outsider and insider threats. This major also teaches many different techniques that are critical and necessary for analyzing possible cybersecurity risks. Going down this path is beneficial to cyber security as it does help aid in preventing, detecting, and recovering from cyber attacks. The third major is that of computer science, this occupation is in extremely high demand. Cybersecurity is a subfield of computer science, and it helps focus on the study of different computer programming languages. Computer science generally focuses on network and computer vulnerabilities and also centralizes around how to defend them from potential attacks. Computer Science greatly relies on the understanding of computers and networks which cybersecurity relies on. The last major is Criminology and Criminal Justice, this major relates to Cybersecurity mainly due to preventing crimes in a world where crimes can also be committed online. Whenever a security breach occurs online, cyber forensics who are also known as computer forensics take charge and lead criminal justice responses in which they ID and collect data, emails, computer files, social media, and occasionally phone records. This measure is mainly targeted towards law enforcement however due to technology being an important feature and asset in our day-to-day lives crimes can also be committed online and regulating and ensuring the safety and well being of others online is a pillar in today’s world where the cyber world blends greatly with the real world
