Today as of 2023, cyber technology has been the fastest it’s ever been, the smartest it’s ever been, and more global than ever. Roughly 60% of the earth’s population has been on or is currently online which means we have all been connected one way or another thanks to the Internet.The Internet today acts as an accessible virtual portal between online users where they can be reached within a matter of seconds. Due to being able to be reached out to at any time, you can be reached out anywhere. Anywhere when you have access to the Internet that is. Your digital footprint however, lives on line forever. Regardless, if you delete it, the digital footprint is still there.
Your digital footprint may hold crucial, and very personal identifiable information. This type of information is constantly heavily sought after by many different organizations, companies, and third-party users. PII is big bucks in the cyber world, which is often referred to as a cyber space or even the Metaverse. Attackers, plan and exercise, many different, clever, and hidden methods to hack, steal and acquire information. One popular means in which they attempt this is by phishing. Phishing is a popular technique in which offenders will attempt to contact you via email or messages and hide behind a persona where they are trying to act as an organization or personnel, in order to trick you into handing over and giving them your information.
Technology enables offenders to act and attack at any time, regardless of distance. This puts more people at risk as crimes before were more face-to-face before cyber technology even played a role or factor. However, thanks to this tool known as the Internet people are more vulnerable and at risk now than ever. There is a risk of being a victim in person, and now a new issue in which they can be a victim online which we know as cyber crime, the user doesn’t even have to be present in order for it to happen Cyber crime just covers the area of cyber technology in which people were once unreachable before. However, that is all now changed. Interactions being possible on and off line has put users in a position where they must constantly have the guard up and keep their head on a swivel every day there a new ideas as to how to slow down the attackers from preying on their victims online but there isn’t any indication of them actually slowing down anytime soon.
