Marxist criticism is all about class differences (socially and economically). Often criticizing common ideologies people have associated with the levels of class stratefication.

 

Questions Marist May Ask

  1.  How is class conflict the source of struggle and tension in the artifact?
  2. How does the artifact reflect the social/material conditions of the times? 
  • It is important to know when criticizing class conflict to know-how it affects the rhetorical artifact. Knowing how social/material conditions are at the time will help us understand why it is such a big deal.

Cons of theory

  • criticism limits freedom by inserting the idea that capitalist ideology is worse than economic systems such as communism.

Contributors

Marx is the main contributor who started criticizing the capitalist economic system by showing it will only widen the gap of social stratification, causing tension between classes. Althusser is the second contributor who started focusing on ideologies associated with different classes and how binaries create division, further reinforcing particular ideologies.
