Everyday is a chance to do something for someone you may or may not know. I always try to hold the door for those behind me even when they are pretty far back. I remind them they do not have to rush, but it is always nice to acknowledge someone is choosing to hold the door for you. A lot of those times, I get a cheerful “thank you” from the people I hold the door for. After all, there are a lot of people who do not look behind them, yet alone hold the door. Another thing I did today was Cashapp $10 to a friend who had taken me and her roommates, over the weekend, to Virginia Beach. We are at a time in our society where inflation is impacting jobs, lifestyles, and it’s prevalent in gas prices. I honestly do not want to spend/give more than I am saving but it does not hurt to give once in a while or for/within a reason. She also understands that, even though it is not much, it is something.

On Sunday, I donated to The Potter’s House in North Texas. Even though I am not a member of that specific church I still wanted to give because I was not able to make it to my service. I also plan to give and support Ukraine tomorrow in honor of my mom’s passing. Tomorrow makes 9 years since she passed. Due to COVID and me not having a car anymore, normally on her anniversary I buy someone pizza or flowers and go and give it to them anonymously. But what more than to donate to an orphanage or to Ukraine, it still declares how impactful my mom has been in and upon my life (and more). Lastly, last week I bought my friend some Claritin and eye drops because she has really bad allergies and had been meaning to buy those things. Yet, I got them for her without her knowing and she was appreciative.

Giving is a form of Love

Taken from https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/b/love-giving-heart-love-hands-holding-logo-design-symbol-illustration-love-giving-heart-love-hands-holding-logo-124633366.jpg

I picked this image because doing nice things for others is an action of “one’s heart in hand.” It is genuine and kind. I give with pure intention, not really showing who or how I am as a person but because of the impact that it may have on the other person. It takes so little to make someone’s day.

ATA 3

So for the numbers listed and their ranges I got low for 1-14 and high for 15-35 and low for 36-42. I basically scored low for Eros, Ludus, and Agape. I scored high for Storge, pragma, and mania at least in terms and comparison of my gender. Yet I do feel that this is partially correct but not entirely. If anything I feel it may be misinterpreted or skewed.

In terms of Eros, I scored high and thus means I am low for that type of love, but I am a very emotional person and need that in love. The emotional intensity does not have to be as high as the emotional understanding. I also can catch feeling pretty quickly depending on the person and physical attraction does not matter but it definitely is a plus. I agree with my score for Ludus. When it comes to love being a “game” I am definitely watching from the bench and not playing the games. I am not manipulative at all, I would always want to have pure intentions and a pure interaction. My score for storge was high and I am glad it was because to me love is a deep friendship. Before getting into a relationship, one always starts off as friends or, there is at least is a sense of meaning/bond between one another. Gradually you learn more things about each other, what makes the person tick, their likes, lifestyle, etc. Over time, it gets deeper if you’re in a relationship and even deeper if you decide to marry than the experiences are now shared. I also scored high for pragma and mania. In terms of pragma, I do agree, I look at the attributes of my lover because I can not just date or marry anyone. The things I have been through, parental bereavement, heartbreak, depression, I need someone who will love me unconditionally but also understand me when I am in/at my worst (vice-versa). I would never plan out love because that is not how it works, but I do have morals and standards, simply being a gentleman is one of them. For mania, I am not sure how to feel real but I do have uncertainty when it comes to myself, I feel not everything can be shared (at least on my end). I do not know if my significant other, would be able to handle what I come up with or even maybe some things I have done. There is no judgment on my end and I would never be in a relationship just to cheat or be cheated on. Lastly, agape, I scored low and I also don’t agree with that score. It is hard at times to be patient with your lover’s flaws and mistakes. Love at times can be demanding, when your significant other loses someone they love, at that moment love is all-giving. When they mess up, this issue is addressed and then chucked behind, if it can be resolved and depending on what it is, that is love. Getting over hurdles, be them big or small is at times demanding even when you do not want to love. Love is in so many things, and can be expressed in so many ways; I believe that wholeheartedly.

Love is more than what actions can do or words can say!

8 Types of Love from coolguides

I chose this image to depict all types of love because I feel that I share attributes in all of them. I do not just feel like my score/a number depicts the types of love that I show. My highest scores do kind of make sense and do sum up who I am and maybe a little bit of how I am but not in its entirety. But there are more than just five styles of love too and this image shows that too.

ATA 2

I have a lot of photos where I am comedic, model-worthy (a lot of those), emotional, memes worthy, and some are even just random. I think I do not really take time to say good things to myself and come to think of it, I do depreciate myself more than I do appreciate. I am not really body positive so a lot of pictures I have I nitpick and feel my head is too small, chin too pointy, I am too skinny, or others will say I do not smile enough. Yet I find pictures of myself to be pretty in their own way even if they are comedic or random. One picture I picked represents me as a child, it is cliché to say innocent but rather I look loving my eyes look big and nurturing and I just look like a serious yet genuine person. That sums up how I am now as a person and even how I look in my pictures at times. The many selfies and photos I have of myself represent me as a friend, a mental health advocate, a human being, a student, a daughter, and a sister.

I love the pictures that show me as a daughter because in a lot of those pictures my parents, look proud of me or they look like they are happy to be a part of my growth despite hardship. In those photos, I also look glad to be around them, and I am or was so dependent on them (always had my head on their shoulder or holding their hand). Pictures that show me being a friend have me dancing or smiling around those people. The comedic and meme-worthy pictures are sent to that one friend who understands and reciprocates my sense of humor. I do have pictures and videos where I express emotion and the importance of others to get these emotions out. It is not to embarrass myself on social media but I am not the person who is smiling and happy in pictures all the time. Through that, I wish others understood that they are human and social media depicts a lie of who they are. I work and go to school, I look stressed, my hair isn’t the way I want it to be and it is not done, I am tired and sleepy.

Authenticity: How am I Towards Myself?

Taken from: https://www.verywellmind.com/i-hate-myself-ways-to-combat-self-hatred-5094676

I have chosen this image to show how often I view myself. I was torn between uploading a collage of myself but I decided not to. I know all the good things about myself, and I even wrote them up there. But when I view myself, I tend to compare and contrast who I am as a person and how others view me, which impacts how I perceive myself. Who am I to think I am pretty, or I messed up and because I messed up…that does not make me a good daughter, friend, or student. I feel I know myself well enough more than anyone else but it doesn’t feel that way.

ATA 1

A heuristic is a “mental shortcut” that induces and promotes self-educating in areas like judging a situation and problem-solving. Using heuristics can lead someone to come to and draw conclusions effectively and quickly. This reduces mental effort and substitutes simple questions in the place of more complex and difficult ones. However, it is not always good to make decisions or come to a conclusion quickly considering it could be faulty. Our minds and choices can fail us at times if not thought out entirely. Just because something worked in the past, does not mean that it will always work again later. It also seems that heuristics can leave room open for bias.

Availability Heuristic: Is being able to decide or make judgments relying on immediate examples. For example, making the statement that people are afraid of flying due to plane crashes. This is an incorrect inference because of one’s fear. It is said that flying is far safer than driving. So from that assumption, it would then be best to book a flight from Norfolk to California because it is safer and most likely quicker. For all, we know driving isn’t the safest but I do know at least you’re in control when driving the car and most people do like having some sort of control.

Representative Heuristic: Is being able to compare information to mental prototypes. An example is describing an elderly man as giving, warm, caring, and funny. He fits the mental representation of a grandfather. The man could be the opposite of those adjectives, or he may not have any grandkids. He could just be a great person or man with characteristics like that.

Anchoring and Adjustment Heuristic: This is the tendency for a human to rely on or accept the first piece of information received before deciding (“anchor”). A customer may go to a fast-food restaurant and ask for a drink. The sizes range in small, medium, and large. The customer may then ask for the prices or variations to see which would be a good deal and within their overall budget. In most situations, there isn’t much of a change in the outcome. For example, let’s say the subtotal of the order is $10.59 and this is with a small drink. But with a large drink, it’s $11.42 it is only a $0.83 amount difference. I would get a large drink and be satisfied. It is not a dramatic difference, it does not make much of a difference. You could end up with less or lower than you deserve.

Status Quo Heuristic: Humans are more inclined to leave things as they are than to go out of the way and change them. An example could be paying the dental and health insurance fee that is included in one’s tuition. You may be paying for something you will never use and it could save you a couple hundred. But as students, we do not feel like taking it out, considering we may need it, or we just do not feel like going through the process of installing it to one day need to have it re-included in our tuition. I would not infer that people like things to remain the same. In this regard, the change could help you save some money especially if you have access outside of school to a hospital that takes your insurance.

Image was obtained from here https://www.verywellmind.com/thmb/NDkxf85m4u249ueR7uyfekCzWK0=/800×0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/what-is-a-heuristic-2795235-c9a787c5c2614653b00f18f0e4592ffd-08b1c3ebcdea42adbee74e6379a0be6c.jpg

Heuristics seem to be a very critical and important part in mind-processing. I learned from the take away the many different heuristics that help one to simplify things that are complicated. I learned that I personally resonate with three out of four heuristics (availability, status quo, and anchoring/adjustment). I can be pretty indecisive, so sometimes in order to make a decision, I just need at least one piece of information and then I feel I am able to make a decision. But a lot of times even after I am given an anchor, I still feel indecisive because I second guess and wonder if there are any other options that are better.

I chose this picture as a visual representation that describes the intentions and uses of heuristics. I feel that this picture puts it out that heuristics does not leave any room for bias and promotes accuracy. Yet, there are some things that are inaccurately inferred. It is kind of like “what heuristics is known to be vs. what it actually is.” Nevertheless, it all makes sense now as to why I think the way I do. It can be misleading because the mind can recall things really easily at the expense of when things that are more common or realistic do not come to mind.

ATA 4 I love to do things for others!
