Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a ranking of human needs arranged in ascending levels from basic needs to psychological needs to self-fulfillment needs, which form a pyramid. Basic needs consist of Physiological needs, such as food, water, shelter, and rest, and Safety needs, such as security. Psychological needs consist of Love and Belongingness needs, such as friends and intimate relationships, and Esteem needs, such as status and accomplishments. Self-fulfillment needs consist of Self-actualization, such as reaching one’s full potential. In my digital experiences, I have my own digital needs. In a world that relies on modern technology, simple access to my smartphone and laptop has become a physiological need because of all the information and opportunities it gives me, especially as a student.
Furthermore, there are vulnerabilities that cybercriminals would like to exploit, so some of my safety needs would have to be strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and keeping sensitive information secure. One benefit of the digital world is that it connects people. The interconnectedness of the digital world is my love and belongingness need because it keeps me in contact with my family and friends no matter where we are. My social media presence isn’t a significant focus, so I don’t worry about likes and follows. Still, social media and an online presence are good ways to put myself out there and advertise opportunities. For example, an esteem need of mine would be this portfolio or an excellent LinkedIn profile because they can showcase my strengths for anybody to see. I see technology as a source for my creative endeavors and career goals. Technology allows me to attain my self-actualization needs; I can pursue a career in cybersecurity, allowing me to make something of myself and giving me the stability to experience things that genuinely make me happy.
