When taking the Social Media Disorder Scale, I scored a two out of nine. I said yes to persistence and displacement traits, neglecting other activities to use social media and trying to use social media but failing. I think the traits in this disorder scale are definitely strong signs that people are way too dependent on and addicted to social media. I believe the different patterns of social media use and addiction around the world are dependent on the development of the area. Differences in internet access and technology infrastructure can also have an impact on how people utilize social media. Due to fewer options for interaction, social media addiction may be less common in areas with poor internet availability or where smartphone use is less common. If the area is heavily dependent on technology and the internet, the traits associated with social media disorder would be more prevalent among those people.
