What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?

There is an overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime which others are not as familiar about. Cybercrime is a crime that involves computers and network systems but is illegal behavior that is committed in violation of the criminal law. Overlapping criminal justice and cybercrime also involve elements of criminology, sociology, and ethics. It starts to overlap with the criminal justice system when theft occurs online. Cybercrime incidents occur like identity theft, financial institutions, blackmail, fraud, and extortion. Pretending to be someone or stealing their identity, creating fraud or stealing money from financial institutions, blackmail on other individuals or extortion. These all can be reasons for how to obtain personal information which is considered cybercrimes. These cybercriminals can cause damage to any individual but are most common in businesses or corporations. They can be local within states or they can be worldwide throughout the country. A crime not behind a computer comes with consequences for a crime that an individual does. Criminal justice has put laws into place for cybercriminals; therefore, there can be consequences that lead up to these actions. It can lead up to a felony or a misdemeanor. Hacking laws, federal malware laws, and cybercrime against cyberstalking, harassment, and threats. These laws were placed in order to catch the criminals that were hidden behind a technology device.

This relates to other disciplines that we have discussed in class with different topics. Being able to understand what right and wrong actions to make on technology is a major key. This overlaps in cybercrime because if you know the difference between what is right or wrong, then you should not have any issue in doing a cybercrime. Understanding the ways to protect a network system that could contain private information can play a major role. This will help you contain your personal information without having a criminal trying to hack in.
