We have many misconceptions about cybersecurity. Here, hackers tell you about some of our
misconceptions. What personal misconceptions did you have before you started to study
cybersecurity? Have those been proven right or wrong?
I had many misconceptions about cybersecurity before I began studying. My
misconceptions were that hackers didn\u2019t steal nearly as much money as I thought they did, that
many devices couldn\u2019t be accessed, and my information was secure. The video also explained
that the movies are very wrong which I had a general idea about but wasn\u2019t entirely sure. The
hacking scenes or the fancy devices were a shock as she said they did have some real world
applications. I wasn\u2019t aware that many devices can be plugged in that can just automatically
discover your passwords and gain access to your systems, As I began studying I realized that
people really do fall victim to a lot of basic cybersecurity attacks. These attacks have turned into
a multi-billion dollar business. I was extremely surprised that even large corporations fall victim
to whaling schemes. I didn\u2019t know that devices could be so easily accessed. I believed for so
long that my iPhone was un-hackable but I was very wrong. I also believed that my information
was very secure. After watching the TED talk video about the coffee shop, I realized that I
probably do have a lot of my information on the internet and I\u2019m not even aware of it. It blew my
mind that they got so much information in the few minutes that they received their coffees.
Learning about all of these methods has really opened my eyes to how much I didn\u2019t know
before and what steps I need to take to make myself more secure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
