In my most recent assignment, I chose to write on a very personal issue, my Afghani background, and the oppression faced through out the years for the women of its country.

I always knew that Afghanistan had been a country facing years of oppression and struggle when it came to restoring the rights of women. This article made me dig a little deeper, and what I found made me question the anger and rage I had stored from the issue. I found that Afghanistan had made multiple efforts to try and reform the issues regarding women, but was often met by outside forces, like war and foreign influence causing revolt, and reversed years and periods of equal rights. It made me appreciate what the UN and the United States were doing for that country to help the citizens feel safer and more respected.

This assignment was actually tied together with a topic we covered in Psychology of Women, and the cultural differences in gender equality. It opened my eyes to how extreme gender inequality can be, but also the perspectives of how women see these forces of oppression. The physical and emotional toll it can take on a woman’s psyche and body, as well as her future.
