A big reason for taking this class was to understand culture and its influences. Breezing over the course objectives its been made very clear that it is imperative to understand cultures and their influence on our life and the lives of others. Being of a multicultural background I think taking this course will help me understand the psychology of different cultures. Understanding cultural diversity can benefit every facet of life, from family to work. America has become a melting pot, and failing to understand that and accept it seems like it would lead to failure in other ways as well. My goal is to gain a better focal point as to why it seems like cultures can differ so greatly, and also to adapt better and accept that cultural diversity is actually a great benefit to the success of humanity. In my opinion one of the most important aspects of education is the implementation part, practice, don’t just preach. I plan on using the knowledge and skills I gain in the class, whether it may be critical thinking methods or just a little more psychological understanding and morality, to embrace not only my own cultural diversity but also to help others embrace theirs. I think the use of the WordPress blogs and the assignment takeaways will provide us all as a class the ability to not only learn, but express in our own words how we feel and what these lessons mean to us. The practicality of this method speaks volumes to me, especially in the way that I learn and absorb things, but it also intensifies the last objective of this course. This blog method is a great way to integrate learning, and a great way for us to make connections to the lessons we will learn in the readings to outside experiences.
