For this blog post, I went back to my very first weekly blog posting, and re-read it. I don’t think I really remember writing it, because looking back I really achieved all of my course goals without really even trying. I think more than anything, this course made me open up to some points of contention I had in myself, regarding my mixed culture, and helped me gain a better understanding to help cope with internal struggles I have had all along, especially when we had an assignment where we had to reflect internally into what kind of cultural personality we had. Looking back over the course objectives, I think I conquered the entire list, especially the impact of culture on human life and the goal of developing a better understanding of different cultures to help interact with people of different cultures. For example, I have always been intrigued with Japanese culture, but never actually dug deep to find out why there are such big differences in etiquette and the way that we each are, but this course, through research of other’s experiences have explained to me, that within every culture, there are differences and that perspective is the biggest key to adaptation. I take a lot of what I have learned in this class and apply it to my Psychology of Women and I/O Psychology courses, because those same lessons are lessons that will help me succeed in life and in my career as I interact with others, and eventually enter the world of management. If I had to take this course all over, I would hope that we could use this WordPress blog again, and I think I would expose a little more of the issues that I hold close, to help me personally resolve the internal emotional issues I have with my cultural background.
