I am majoring in Ocean Earth and Atmospheric Sciences with a concentration in Geology and minoring in Geography. I am also working toward a certificate in GIS and a Certificate in Spatial Analysis of Coastal Environments. I am the president of the Earth and Ocean Sciences Club at ODU. I currently intern in the Center for Geospatial and Visualization Computing and am a biological oceanography lab assistant.

Jennifer Petterman

“Changing Oceans: Exploring Acidification and Albedo”

Ryan Glaubke – “I’m Ryan Glaubke, a Master’s student in the Dept. of Ocean, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at Old Dominion University. I use the geochemistry of small, sand-grain-sized shells at the bottom of the ocean to reconstruct natural climate change as far back as 200,000 years ago. My research interests include past abrupt climate change, the means by which the ocean and the atmosphere interact with one another, and how the ocean exerts a control on the Earth’s climate system. Outside of the lab, I’m deeply dedicated to science communication and am interested in finding new and exciting ways to communicate science — both as a body of facts and as a way of thinking — to a broad, diverse audience.

Lauren Sommers is a graduate student studying physical oceanography at Old Dominion University. Her research interests include: climate change, sea level rise, circulation, modeling, bio-physical interactions. She enjoys work that is interdisciplinary where she can work with a variety of people on projects that include both observational work and modeling. She is currently working on developing estimating factors effecting sea level change and an index on regional sea level rise.
Lauren completed two bachelor of science degrees from California State University Monterey Bay in mathematics and environmental science, technology and, policy, and received a master of science degree in oceanography from Old Dominion University. She is really enjoying living on a new coast and learning coastal processes and different ecosystems that exist here in Virginia. Some of her personal hobbies include playing in a band, competing in triathlons, and participating in community outreach and service.

Charles Carlson

“Water Water Everywhere and No Place to Go”

Homa Jalaeian Taghadomi

“Our Home Planet and its Place in the Cosmos” Katheryne Price Erik S.
