Urban Studies and Public Administration Class, 1980s<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Master of Public Administration<\/strong> is one of the degree programs in the School of Public Service<\/strong>, located in the Strome College of Business<\/strong><\/a>. The program is for those that have in interest in working in government and non-profit agencies. The degree currently consists of 39 credit hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1958 June: The first Certificate in Public Administration was awarded. The program was a joint effort between the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary<\/strong> and the Naval Supply Center<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1973: The School of Business Administration offered a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with an emphasis in public administration<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1974 Fall: The Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) was first offered and had approximately 60 students its first year<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1975 May: The first M.P.A degrees were conferred at Commencement<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1975 July: The Master of Urban Studies and M.P.A. programs were combined, along with the Center for Urban Research and Service, to establish the Institute of Urban Studies and Public Administration. The Institute, which reported to the Dean of Graduate Studies, administered the Urban Studies and Public Administration programs.
