Kaufman Hall, 1960s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kaufman Hall<\/strong> is one of the six buildings that surround Kaufman Mall<\/strong><\/a> on the campus of\u00a0Old Dominion University (ODU)<\/strong>. It is located on the west side of the mall between\u00a0Webb University Center<\/strong><\/a> and\u00a0Monarch Hall<\/strong><\/a>. The building is named after\u00a0Charles Kaufman<\/strong>, a Norfolk lawyer and strong proponent of Old Dominion’s independence.<\/p>\n

Dedicated in 1965, Kaufman Hall is one of four buildings housing the\u00a0Batten College of Engineering and Technology<\/strong><\/a>. Due to the program’s rapid growth in the 1960s, the\u00a0Engineering Laboratory Building<\/strong>, later renamed\u00a0Duckworth Hall\u00a0<\/strong>after former Norfolk mayor Fred Duckworth, was built next door in 1971. A glass structure was built to connect the two buildings in 1986. In the mid-1990s, due to the controversy of Duckworth’s past as a supporter of segregation, his name was taken off the building. Today, both buildings make up Kaufman Hall.<\/p>\n
