Albert Brooks Gornto, Jr. Hall<\/strong>, or Gornto familiarly, is home to the Distance Learning<\/strong> program and the\u00a0Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT)<\/strong> on the campus of\u00a0Old Dominion University (ODU)<\/strong>. The building is located between the\u00a0New Education Building<\/strong> and the\u00a0Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry<\/a> Library<\/strong> along 43rd Street and is named in honor of\u00a0Albert Brooks Gornto, Jr.<\/strong>, class of 1956, donor, and a member of the ODU\u00a0Board of Visitors<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

History<\/h3>\n

Construction of the building began in 1997 and it was dedicated in June 1999 with ODU President\u00a0James V. Koch<\/strong><\/a> and Barbara Gornto, Albert Gornto’s widow, in attendance. Gornto Hall was originally built to house the expanding\u00a0TELETECHNET<\/strong><\/a> distance learning program. Today, most of the satellites used in the TELETECHNET program have been discontinued as more and more students are taking courses through the revamped ODU Online program.<\/p>\n
