Gornto, Jr. Hall Footbridge, circa 1999<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Albert Brooks Gornto, Jr. Hall<\/strong>, or Gornto familiarly, is home to the <strong>Distance Learning<\/strong> program and the\u00a0<strong>Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT)<\/strong> on the campus of\u00a0<strong>Old Dominion University (ODU)<\/strong>. The building is located between the\u00a0<strong>New Education Building<\/strong> and the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/oduwiki\/2019\/05\/07\/patricia-w-and-j-douglas-perry-library\/\">Patricia W. and J. Douglas Perry<\/a> Library<\/strong> along 43rd Street and is named in honor of\u00a0<strong>Albert Brooks Gornto, Jr.<\/strong>, class of 1956, donor, and a member of the ODU\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/oduwiki\/2016\/09\/08\/board-of-visitors\/\"><strong>Board of Visitors<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>History<\/h3>\n<p>Construction of the building began in 1997 and it was dedicated in June 1999 with ODU President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/oduwiki\/2017\/09\/28\/james-v-koch\/\"><strong>James V. Koch<\/strong><\/a> and Barbara Gornto, Albert Gornto&#8217;s widow, in attendance. Gornto Hall was originally built to house the expanding\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/oduwiki\/2019\/05\/24\/teletechnet\/\"><strong>TELETECHNET<\/strong><\/a> distance learning program.
