The building is located in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/oduwiki\/2019\/05\/10\/university-village\/\"><strong>University Village<\/strong><\/a> along Hampton Boulevard between 43rd Street and 45th Street and is named in honor of\u00a0<strong>Theodore (Ted) Constant<\/strong>, a long-time ODU benefactor.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>History<\/h3>\n<p>Construction began on the Ted in 2000 as part of the University Village project conceived by ODU President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/oduwiki\/2017\/09\/28\/james-v-koch\/\"><strong>James V. Koch<\/strong><\/a>. The 9,100 seat convention center opened in the fall of 2002. Prior to 2002, most of the basketball games at ODU were played at the Fieldhouse inside the Health and Physical Education Building.
