The Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries<\/strong> are one of the two art museums on the campus of Old Dominion University (ODU)<\/strong>. Located along Monarch Way between 45th Street and 46th Street, the galleries feature works by national and international self-taught artists, contemporary artists, and artists connected with ODU. The facility features two 2,600 square-foot galleries and are named after Baron and Ellin Gordon, two folk art collectors from Williamsburg, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the early 1970s, the Department of Art<\/strong> was looking for exhibit space for student and faculty works. In 1974, the department, with the help of professor Ken Daley, opened the University Gallery<\/strong> at 765 Granby Street in downtown Norfolk. In 1999, the University Gallery moved to 21st Street in Norfolk’s artsy Ghent neighborhood. With the expansion of the University Village<\/a><\/strong> project, the University Gallery became part of the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries in 2007. The galleries also feature a storage room, offices, and a reception area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
