Welcome to the OEAS Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) website and blog! Each summer, undergraduates from around the country are selected to engage in their own independent research projects investigating topics centered on climate change, sea level rise, and the various impacts it presents to an urbanized coastal city such as Norfolk, VA. With a wide variety backgrounds, students bring different expertise, problem solving skills, and modes of thinking to bear on questions of climate change, itself a multi-faceted and interdisciplinary problem.

This 10-week paid program supported by the National Science Foundation provides students with an opportunity to develop research skills; work side-by-side with top scientists; and participate in workshops, field trips, and lectures to exchange ideas and establish relationships lasting throughout their professional career. For more information about our REU program, as well as information about past REU projects, please visit our REU information page.
The purpose of this blog is to report on the experiences, progresses, and achievements of our interns during their summer residency. We will periodically update the blog with blurbs on student progress; news on activities, seminars, and workshops outside of the lab; and short summaries on the interns’ respective research projects.
