Week 10 Final presentations

Today is the day our REU’s have been working towards all summer. This is the day where we get to see the hard work that our REU students accomplished with all summer. In front of their fellow peers, advisors, graduate students, faculty, and family each gave a 10 min talk with questions. We wanted the students to treat this as they would a scientific meeting, giving an oral presentation to a broad scientific audience. This presentation includes their specific goals, challenges, and results and how they relate to the context of climate sciences. Each of the 10 REU students presented their work effectively and showed true professionalism. We were all impressed by the projects this year. After the final talks, we followed with a reception and now the REUs must head back to their dorms and pack up their belongings and memories for the summer. The students may be going home but the summer research is not done and each REU summer scholar will prepare a scientific report for their advisor. Have a safe trip home everyone and good luck finishing up your papers – it’s been an awesome summer!
