SPAN 102

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

In this Spanish class I have had to overcome a lot of different struggles. I have not taken Spanish since High school and it was hard to remember a lot of terms. I had to make a lot of growth by learning the vocabulary and the grammar. By learning how to articulate my words in Spanish once again and also learning how to write compositions I know a lot more Spanish than I knew when the semester first started. I studied very hard and worked hard on the test. My weaknesses have been speaking and trying to make sense in conversation. Some of my strengths have been memorizing vocabulary.

Some products that helped me learn more culture about spanish is doing talk abroad and also using lingro learning. The discussion boards also have helped me a lot as well. I had to do a lot of research to answer the discussion board topics and that helped me learn a lot about over seas culture. With the talk abroad challenging me each time I tried I knew I got better and It made me study and try way harder to have a fluent conversation in spanish. I saw when doing research how women are not treated equal even in hispanic countries. I saw that healthcare is free in certain spanish countries like spain for an example.

I think it is important to engage in your community. I engage in my community by providing swim lessons for the youth in my community. I teach children with disabilities to swim and have been running my own business doing that for about a year now. I think it is important to make an impact in my community because I may not be able to change the world but I know that I can make a difference in my community.

I enjoyed my talk abroad and I think it helped me become a better spanish speaker. I think it made me more confident in being able to speak the language fluently. I got to speak with people from other countries and learn more about them. I have also done duo lingo which helped me learn more spanish terms. Some things that helped me learn more about the hispanic language is doing talk abroad and also using Lingro learning. The discussion boards also have made me do a lot of research to answer the discussion board questions and that helped me learn a lot about the hispanic language. It was difficult but I made sure to learn everything I could learn to get the most information I could. I would do talk abroad over just to get more experience having an actual conversation in spanish. I think that really helped me confidence wise.

Having to do my final conversation was more like a presentation to me. I studied all of my vocabulary and really engaged in my class as well. The hardest challenge to me was doing it for a grade and not knowing if I will preform well or not. I overcame this by looking over all of my modules in my class and making sure to study all of my topics and lessons I had gone over during the semester. I think I did really good at using my vocabulary to my advantage and speaking with sentences instead of just words.

I have a article that I had to research and write a summary about. It was about the differences between gender roles in Spain versus the united states. I learned a lot about how people are treated in other countries. It was hard because I had to do a lot of searching to find my answers but I overcame that by summing up all of the information I had gathered and putting it all into topics and then summarizing it. Next time I will try to find my sources from people that may have actually lived there. Then I can get better explanations of how things go in Spain.

I saw a video talking about the different dishes that hispanic countries make. Some of them I have not tried but I would if given the chance. The video was talking about the top dishes in each of the countries. Trying to find my favorite dish was hard because there were so many options the video had given. I found that the most interesting dish was what the Dominican republic makes. It was chicken and rice with red beans on the side. I have learned a lot more about the different food choices in each of the countries and it made me look into traveling to a different country to try the dishes they offer.

I read a blog that showed how tacos in America are very different from the tacos that they make in mexico. I actually had the chance to go to mexico and try the tacos there. They use pork instead of beef in their tacos. I also learned that a lot of people from the land of mexico do not like to eat American tacos because they do not use pork. It was hard for me to think that Americans butchered the original version of how a taco is supposed to be made. I started to learn how to make them the way they do in Mexico.
