The Legal System Response to Technological Advancements

As technology advances, the need to regulate it becomes imminent and there are a couple of things that legislators can do to become more proactive to fill in the growing gaps on the legal side of things. The constant interaction with technology and analyzing various legal implications of possible innovations is a way that can help bridge the gap for the rapid growth rate of technological advancements. Setting guidelines for inventions before they are released to the public should be considered, the same way the FDA approves of a drug before it is distributed to the public should be the same way for products of technology to be regulated. This will allow legislators to keep up with certain things like driverless cars and the laws associated with that, and even with IOT (internet of things) such as smart technology like smart cars, smart homes, and smart thermostats; where they can be able to set certain legal jurisdictions to protect users from possible cyber hacks. Advancements in new technology demands a new skillset of lawyers, judges, juries– people who can understand the complexity of technology, and its impact towards society, and most importantly its impact on businesses. Between the use of drones, and smart technology at some point can be deemed unethical for the purposes that these things can track your movements, and violate others privacy rights, which is why it is so important that legislators find ways to allow innovators to freely express themselves legally while at the same time prevent innovators or others from violating others privacy rights.
