Journal 2: Explain how the principles of science relate to cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computer systems, networks, and digital information. The principles of science can be related to cybersecurity as an applied science, which is defined as a general classification for the real-world application of scientific knowledge and research. Cybersecurity, applied physics, aerospace and communication are all examples of applied science. Other forms of science include natural science (e.g., chemistry, geology, physics), formal science (e.g., logic, theoretical computer science, and artificial intelligence), and social science (e.g., economics, politics, anthropology, and psychology). There are three main principles to cybersecurity, it is formerly known as the CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability). The CIA triad serves as a foundation for effective security infrastructure and policies; with it in place, it is easier for security professionals to set policies and to analyze weaknesses in one’s security. Confidentiality ensures that the information to be secured is only accessible to authorized users and prevents the disclosure of information to unauthorized parties. Integrity makes sure that the information remains accurate, consistent, and not subject to unauthorized modification. Availability is put into place to ensure that efforts to secure information in cyberspace is not hindered by authorized users.
