Cybersecurity, Technology, and Society
In my Cybersecurity, Technology, and Society (CYSE 200T) course we learned through an interdisciplinary approach how cybersecurity and technology go hand in hand. We also learned how cybersecurity problems are related to an array of disciplines like business, and legal. What stood out to me the most about this course was the journal entries we were assigned to answer in this portfolio.
The journal entries I wrote for my Cybersecurity, Technology, and Society course improved my ability to think critically, solve problems, and communicate across other disciplines. I understood the interconnectedness of these disciplines after studying the interactions between one another. This experience helped me to better grasp how cybersecurity affects society, which is in line with my desire to work in the field.
The journal entries I wrote for the course perfectly display what I learned throughout this course. In our journal entries, we were asked to answer a variety of questions within the course. This course deepened my understanding of how cybersecurity impacts society, aligning with my goal to contribute to a more secure digital world.
Journal Entry
- Why are you interested in cybersecurity technology? I am interested in cybersecurity technology because I have always had a passion for criminology and technology. Once I learned about the cybersecurity technology field, my two passions came together to become one. In this field, there are many things that fascinate me. Cyber attacks are what intrigue me the most. Hackers get ahold of vulnerable information and do bad things with them. Cybercrimes are growing more complex as a result of the ongoing evolution of cybercriminals’ tactics. I want to be the one to help prevent this from happening. I want to be able to make a positive change in what I do. I’ll be able to work knowing that I’m safeguarding other people’s private information and sensitive data. Since cybersecurity is a rapidly evolving field, I will constantly be learning and acquiring new abilities. In the field of cybersecurity, there are many opportunities for advancement and growth.
- Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity. Cybercrime(interdisciplinary studies)(B.S.) Cybercrime and cybersecurity relate to each other in a way that both of their goals are to protect and safeguard sensitive data and information. Cybersecurity and cybercrime both conquer hackers, phishing, malware attacks, and ransomware. Cyber Operations(B.S.) Cyber Operations and Cybersecurity are very similar fields of study. Significant attention is placed on technologies and methods that can be used at all tactical and functional levels in the cyber operations field. Enterprise Cybersecurity(Information Systems and Technology)(B.S.) Enterprise Cybersecurity and Cybersecurity both have the same ultimate objective. When addressing a security incident, Enterprise Cybersecurity deals with the tactics, standards, rules, and procedures. Information Systems and Technology (B.S.)(B.A.) Information Systems Technology and Cybersecurity serve the same purpose in terms of protecting data and safeguarding computer networks from security breaches. Information Systems and Technology is a much wider subject. That deals with computer networking, software development, managing databases, etc. References: Cyber Operations (B.S.).
