After reading an article from Capone and Cyberbitsetc.org it made me think about how human error is more common in data breaches than I thought they were and having a balance between training and additional technology is vital in order to keep an organization or companies private information secure. In Capone’s article he states, If you use manual methods to decide what needs to be classified or protected, it would never work – it just couldn’t scale (Capone, 2018). I completely agree with this statement because no human has the mental capacity to go through such large data amounts and manually protect them. Because like capone stated it would in fact still be a huge amount of data that is unprotected. Which would give hackers the chance to get a hold of information that may be very vital to an organization. Also a lot of people are starting to turn towards using the cloud as a way to store data and with that being relied on it only a matter of time before it becomes a problem. Also according to an Intel study, 43 percent of data breaches are caused internally – either inadvertently or accidentally, or intentionally (Capone, 2018). So in all I would definitely lean more towards additional technology rather than training. Because with the amount of human errors present within the cyber world I would rather have more of a focus on additional technology. Now I’m not going to completely run away from training because that is very important when working with a company but no matter how much training you put into employers they are going to make mistakes. Only because humans do have the tendency to take short cuts and try to find easier routes in everything they do. We’re only human. But when it comes to critical data, maintaining intellectual property, staying in compliance, sensitive information, and brand reputation are just too important. We can’t afford to make mistakes (Capone, 2018).
