A organization I chose to work with is the IGNITE Pantry. My experience volunteering at IGNITE pantry was exciting since it was my first volunteering service I have done. The coordinator showed me around the building and the pantry area. She explained why food in the pantry is organized the way it is as well.
The purpose if IGNITE pantry is to provide food for students who are ODU affiliated. The organization is widely known for being a church and giving back to the community in Norfolk. However, Since it is on campus, students are able to grab food from the pantry without pay for it. They provide canned goods and bagged items. There are a few places where they sort the food based of nutrition. Their organization addresses the need to help those who are not. If people or students are not able to afford food, they can come by the pantry. The IGNITE Pantry is very thoughtful of the community for students at ODU. College expenses can work differently for every student and I believe that recognizes the need of helping students with food.
I believe that this service has some relations to my intended career field is I interact with different people looking for something. Food and nutrition would be a degree Program could relate to the organization I volunteered at. However, I would not consider this major as my parallel major. The reason why I would not consider this major to be my parallel major is because I do not find interest in specializing food’s nutrition.
