Capture Campus

Capture campus is a way ODU freshman can get familiar with the university’s resources, events, or special buildings. During this time, ODU had to make some adjustments due to the coronavirus, so, they out in efforts to give opportunities to still be involved with the campus

This is me attending the African American “pass the aux” event where different black organizations and sororities introduced themselves virtually. The host were very interactive with students and the event overall was exciting. This was a great opportunity for me to be involved with the campus and interact with the black community at Old Dominion University.

This was a nursing panel I attended with some of my classmates. this was such an eye opener for me. All if the Nursing instructors were friendly and informative about their occupation. There was also some Nursing students who shared their experience learning in the program. This event encouraged me to keep striving to graduate with a nursing degree and look at different occupations in the nursing program.

In this Health Science Learning Community events, Dr. Martin discusses about intra and InterculturalĀ information. she stresses the importance of unique interactions with others while sharing culture. constantly communicating with patience, co workers, and bosses in the health field. She also revealed that there can be bias and unfair treatment in the healthcare system. Individuals can see culture through another person’s race, gender, and behavior toward situations. People of color are more likely to experience systematic discrimination in the healthcare field. This event was an informational discussion about how cultural influences affecting the communication with people.

In this event, Dr. Hawkins discusses how our zip codes can affect our life-expectancy. All of the factors that can affect life expectancy is all based off of where an individuals lives. Someone’s financial stability, education, environment, and health can all contribute to how long someone lives. she also touches on the topic of rasism in the healthcare field. Pregnant women who are of color are likely to have a child that may experiencing health issues.
