My Methods
My current methods of studying include typing or writing my notes with drawings or charts, using an online studying app, and listening to music. It is quick and easy to type my notes because it is faster than writing. Another method I use is using an online studying app. When it comes to remembering terms and definitions, I am not so well on tangible flashcards. The studying app has flashcards, practice tests, and mini games to record my progress as I study. The last study method I use is music. I listen to music that is not upbeat or harsh in order for me to concentrate. I typically go for café, instrumental, or lo-fi beat music while doing homework or studying. Listening to music is very important to me because it does not make my environment too quiet and calms me down from preexisting stress.
Techniques in and out of classes
Specific techniques that I use during classes is keeping my notebook on my desk to quickly write down any new information or write my notes on a sticky note. Specific techniques I use outside of class is watching lessons on YouTube. If I did not understand the teacher’s lesson or chapter that I reviewed, then I will find a video that explains more about the topic.
Challenges I experienced In Class
One class I am doing well in is sociology. I think the reason why I am doing well in this class is because I am personally fond of the subject. Learning about how individuals think and act in their environment is interesting to learn. I take information from sociology and incorporate it with real life situations. A study method that works for me is reading the instructor’s power point. I can get a brief lesson from his presentation rather than reading the article. One class where I am experiencing challenges is chemistry lab. I mistakenly went to the in-person lab on the wrong day which resulted in missing the zoom class. I did not ask my classmates for any information because I knew that would be considered cheating, so I did not do the assignment. Recently, I printed the schedule for the chemistry lab to avoid coming to campus on the wrong day.
Techniques That Can Help Me Understand The Material
One new technique I could try in class to help me understand the material is having a study cycle. My studying habits have truly changed since the pandemic and I have occasionally lost motivation in my classes. Although I may not be completely motivated for school, I remind myself about becoming a nurse. It is very expensive to attend college and I am grateful that I have the opportunity to take classes for my career goal and my family members are trying their best for me. I plan to be involved with my university and use all the resources provided for me as a new college student. The steps to the study cycle is to preview the material before class, attend class to discuss, Review notes, study constantly, and attempt to recall the overall material. I am monitoring this technique by having a checklist on my wall or laptop while in class. It is important for me to have a clear studying habit for classes because I actually obtain the information instead of focusing on finishing the assignment.
Technique I Can Use Outside Class
One technique I could use outside of class to help me understand the material is having time management. I may prioritize an assignment that can be done later instead of now. My strategy to achieve this new technique is marking tasks in my planner that need to be attended to first. I will highlight the plan in a red color or number plans from highest priority to lowest priority. I will monitor this technique by checking assignments that I successfully completed in a timely manner. I know that I should avoid procrastinating studying because work will start to build up and cause me to be overwhelmed
