My Parallel Major

The top 5 most recommended majors I was shown was Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Human Development, and Healthcare Administration. The parallel major that I chose is psychology. Old Dominion University provides a B.S in psychology for undergraduates. Students with this major engaged in research activities and clinical work throughout their training. Psychologist treat mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. I took Advance Placement psychology in high school and I was in love with the subject. Psychology has truly changed the way I think and interact with people. I understand the concept psychology thanks to my class in in high school.

Some interesting facts about the Psychology major included

  • Studies the human mind and behavior
  • Individuals can specialize in crime, sports, children, environment, rehabilitation or military occupations in psychology.
  • Learn how humans think and be able to apply information into their own life
  • Seeks to facilitate the development of intellectual skills and characteristics
  • Students are able to participate in psychological research projects at Old Dominion University
  • Old Dominion offers 4 areas in the psychology program for undergraduates

I career path that I would be interested in taking with this major is a college Psychology Teacher. In this occupation, teaches the basic concepts of psychology and are expected to spend time providing lectures and involve students in psychological experiments.

I believe that could possibly gain more experience in this major by joining any organizations and do internships at Old Dominion University in order to interact with other students who also major in psychology. Undergraduate Psychology Organizations at Old Dominion include the PSI-CHI, Association of Psychology Students(APS), and the Industrial/Organization Psychology Student Association(IOPSA)

If I were to switch my major to psychology, I would have to immediately take all the major requirements. Students have to have at least a c average grade in Psychology 201, Math 102 or 103 (or higher Math). Some requirements are surprisingly close to the nursing major but there are differences.
