End of the Semester Reflection

  1. Transition to College

I expected college to be very exciting and difficult 14 weeks ago. I was so excited to start going to college and making new friends because I already had a vision of how. Additionally, just attending college for my career goal as a nurse was thrilling. Something that I wish I knew 14 weeks ago is the amount of work that can pile up so quickly. As an online student this semester, assignments can stack on top of each other, causing unnecessary stress. This semester has been difficult for me because I live off campus and take a majority of online classes. Doing work online is stressful when you stare at a screen for so long. I wish I knew how to organize all my work separately to avoid pile up. Office hours is one of the most helpful resources I have used this semester because I can directly chat with one of my teachers about a topic or homework assignment. The available resources at ODU was an activity that was helpful as well. In HLTH 101 class, we discussed. One resource I have found unhelpful this semester it was attending office hours during the week. I do not have classes on Fridays so I go to office hours. What I learned this semester that will help me next semester is it is okay to ask questions when you are unsure about something. I most of the time follow the majority of the class and don’t ask questions. I advise my future self to ask question no matter how clear the instructions are.

  • Study Habits

I spend about 5 hours studying for as many classes as I want almost every day. I believe that the amount of studying now is heavier than it was in the beginning of the semester because topics are longer and semester is closer to final exams. I don’t believe that my studying habits changed drastically. However, finding the time to study is really different from the beginning of the semester. I try my best to study during the day to avoid sleeping or excessive procrastination. Studying during the day time is the best time to study form me. However, when it comes to doing assignments, I tend to finish them later in the day. Overall, it is just taking time out of the day to study for classes while finishing assignments that has gotten difficult for me. Specific techniques that may work best for me is finding a specific time to work on assignments and when it should be finished.

  • Health Professions Learning Community

All of the classes have a connection with each other because the all are the basic components into a health science career. Learning how society behaves as a whole, learning difficulties working in a health profession, and following procedures all have to do with my major. The classes are not just prerequisites to take before the program but to give a glimpse of how it will be like working in a health science profession. The health chat that I really liked was the nursing panel in late September. There are many different fields for nursing and it made me think of changing my intended field in nursing. The instructors were very informative if their field in nursing. I believe that this benefited me in looking into different professions as well. There is still much to learn but I was very happy to attend the nursing panel.
