Scans, More Scans, and Even More Scans

For my health professional interview I chose to interview CT technologist at Sentara Brock Cancer Center, Elizabeth Stanislawczyk. She got her BS degree in Nuclear Medicine Tech from ODU, and has various certifications such as: Basic Life Support, ARRT registered technologist in Nuclear Medicine Tech, and NMTCB registered technologist in computed tomography. Elizabeth said she has always wanted to join the medical field. She was inspired to pursue a career in the health field because she has a desire to help people in times of need and make a difference in their lives. After getting her BS in Nuclear Medicine Tech from ODU she started working at a small outpatient facility doing CT scans. Then after obtaining her CT license she went to work at Sentara Norfolk General as a CT tech. Her job is to take the best possible CT scans of her patients, and to detect any abnormalities that could be harmful. Although her job has been very rewarding, she has to deal with lots of stress that comes with the position. As she has to take quality pictures and analyze pictures in a timely manner. Her advice for people getting into the health field is for them to “never lose their heart” because they will have to deal with a lot of unfortunate and sad things that come with working in the healthcare field. From this interview I have learned a lot more about what PET/CT technologists do, and how they can be critical in saving lives.
