However, when I finally was able to use the feature correctly, it helped me become much more confident in my pronunciations. I felt like it helped me learn the language through repetition, which helped me to learn new phrases and vocabulary terms while working on my pronunciation. The authentic locations were helpful also because I felt as though it gave me a look into French culture and French life through things like casual bakery experiences, grocery store hauls, and hotel check-ins.

Writing/Dictation Preview

The spelling and typing sections felt the most beneficial to me because they helped me learn vocabulary, spelling, and phonetics at the same time. Typing was very helpful because I feel like rote memorization through repetition is a very helpful method for me, and it helped me get used to typing and spelling the words in a more stress-free environment than class work or a graded assignment. I really liked the spelling sections, because having to type the words just based on what I heard made a huge difference in my understanding of French spelling. It not only helped me to memorize the words I needed but to guess more accurately when trying to spell a word I am not as familiar with because I understand the structure of French words better.

Translation Preview

I thought the translation mode was fine, but it didn’t provide much more for me than the pronunciation did. I was still just repeating the words it said to me, but the English translation provided helped me to strengthen connections between the words and their definitions. I felt like it wasn’t different enough from pronunciation to make a huge difference, but I still think it was beneficial because it gave me another thing to practice. I did like that the authentic locations were included in this as well because it helped with cultural immersion.

Immersion

I really loved the Immersion aspects of this program, and I felt that it was very helpful for getting realistic glimpses into French life. I liked being able to talk with the ImmerseMe speakers about different subjects, especially working on conversational skills and being able to customize my response choices. I think exploration of French culture while also being able to tailor one’s own learning through various ImmerseMe features, including the AI, made it a very well-rounded and helpful experience. I liked that the AI let the user take more control of the conversation; it was a good steppingstone in between the non-AI activities and class participation.

Pronunciation I had a lot of trouble getting this section to pick up my voice at first, and it was bad at understanding me even when I had said a word correctly.
