In regards to relativism, cybersecurity is almost everywhere today. Everything around us is run by computers and connected to networks, like payment systems, cars, phones, street lights, and banks. All of these things need to stay secure to reliably operate and keep people safe. People and groups are constantly committing crimes using the internet and computers, that can impact people’s data or people’s physical safety. Objectivity in cybersecurity relates to understanding how to punish these people without being too biased. For parsimony, it means trying to explain why things happen while keeping the explanation as simple as possible. In cybersecurity, this isn’t so easy because of the human and technical parts of these crimes. One theory is that people commit crimes, and in this case cyber crime, because they have low self-control. Empiricism is studying things that can only be sensed physically, which doesn’t really apply to much in the field of cybersecurity. Ethical neutrality means that scientists must stay neutral when conducting studies. For example, not giving biased surveys to collect data, not using surveillance measures on only certain types of people, and how we can use technology to improve our lives without invading our privacy too much. Determinism is trying to understand why people do things. In cybersecurity, sometimes people choose to commit crime for their own personal gain, or they are forced to by the government. For example, hacker groups target major companies to exploit them for personal gain, while in countries like China, people are forced to hack other nations by the government. Skepticism means that not everything should be taken at face value and claims should be questioned. This promotes extensive testing and training in cybersecurity, which is important for keeping data secure and people safe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The main principles of science are relativism, objectivity, parsimony, empiricism, ethical neutrality, determinism, and skepticism.
