What are ways you can get involved on campus that are associated with things you like to do?
Try to look for clubs/organizations, intramural sports, greek organizations or religious organizations. I guarantee you will find people who are interested in the same things as you and are looking for friends as well.
Think of campus jobs you could see yourself working.
For me, I love interacting with people so I did everything in my power to find a job where I was working with people. I luckily found the Office of Admissions where I got hired to be a campus tour guide and ambassador. I made some of my best friends at this school through my campus job. Making friends through a campus job can be a good way to pinpoint the types of people to surround yourself with because students usually have similar inspirations and motivations to work a particular job.
If you like to exercise and workout, get involved with things at the Student Recreation Center. If you want to prosper in the field of sciences, try to get experience or involved working in the numerous labs we have around campus. We have so many different offices, organizations and types of students and you are bound to meet people as long as you put yourself out there!
Don’t be afraid to start a conversation or break the ice with your fellow classmates.
The majority of friends I have made at ODU was all because we met in the classroom.Usually, people in your classes are focused and motivated on similar things as you. This can result in better study habits and grades because you can work together with the new friend to study and check each other’s assignments.
Remember that your fellow classmates are college students just like you, who get stressed out like you and are more than likely looking for friends just like you!
Old Dominion has 20,000 kids, I can guarantee you that there is a student out there just like you who is interested in the same things as you and might be feeling lonely too!
