Helpful tips from ODU's Peer Academic Coaches (PACs)

Getting Involved

So now that you are getting situated with the new semester and classes, it is time to get involved. We have so many options at ODU whether is it joining Greek life, a social club, or an academic club. The best part is if you don’t find a club that is for you, just make your own club. Maybe you missed the involvement fair, but it is never too late to join!

Admittedly, I didn’t join any clubs my first semester in college and ended up spending my days in my room with my roommate after my classes were done for the day. I finally joined several clubs my second semester here and met so many new people that turned into friends. It was nice making connections with people that had the same interests as me and I enjoyed being more involved in the community. Here are a few tips in finding the club or organization that is right for you…

  • Go to Monarch Link (OrgSync)
    • Find all organizations A through Z
    • Look at the upcoming campus events
  • Go to a few club meetings
    • Give yourself an opportunity to see how the club operates
    • Can you see yourself being involved with each club?
  • Choose which clubs you want to join
    • Now that you have been to several meetings, pay dues to the clubs that you can see yourself actively participating in!
    • After a semester or two of being involved, run for a board position!
