As we approach the finish line to this roller coaster of a school year, especially this semester, I want to congratulate everyone who reads this. You made it, you exceeded your own expectations, you conquered stereotypes and stigmas, and most importantly you got back up after you fell down. You should be proud of yourself you overcame some obstacles that crippled others. The purpose of this message is to change your perspective on this thing called, “the process”. We often set one big goal for ourselves and we measure individual success on whether we achieve that goal or not. Well, sometimes life throws curveballs, like COVID, and you might not reach your big goal, but you were almost there. While most people would hang their heads and cry woe is me, I challenge you to be different. Shoot for the stars always, but in case you land on the moon don’t be ashamed, just look back and see how far you came.
Embrace the small victories from this day forward! Maybe you set out to finish all you work in one day, but you only completed 75% of it, victory. Maybe you wanted to finish a book in one week, but it takes you a week and a half, victory. Maybe you aimed for a 4.0 GPA this semester and you came out with a 3.5 GPA, victory. Success is all about perspective! Do you think that any good thing in this world came to fruition on its first attempt, unlikely? Great things take time and you my friend are a great thing. No matter what the outcome of this semester is, take some time and celebrate yourself to some degree because you made it through. You may be limping, but you made it through. And if you are not happy with the end result, get back up and try it again. I believe in you, now believe in yourself and finish strong!
