Opportunities for Workplace Deviance

Cyber technology has completely changed how we work, bringing amazing tools that boost productivity and make remote work possible but it’s also opened up new ways for people to cross the line. With easy access to sensitive data, employees can now view, share, or misuse information more freely, sometimes without being caught. Digital communication and remote work, while convenient, mean there’s less direct oversight, which can lead to “cyberloafing,” where employees spend work hours on personal activities. Online interactions can also lead to issues like cyberbullying or harassment, damaging team morale and well-being. Social media complicates things further, as employees can now share workplace frustrations publicly, sometimes causing reputational harm for the company. So while cyber technology has unlocked new ways to work, it’s made it more important than ever for companies to have clear policies, build a healthy culture, and keep an eye out for potential misuse.
