Impact of Cybercrime in E-Business and Trust
- How the topic relates to the principles of the social sciences?
The topic relates to the principle of the social sciences in many ways because any technology in the cyber security must go through the social science whether it is securing or hacking. When a seller thinks about making their items available online, they will go through the basics of social sciences. The sellers will research on how they could make their product to look more attractive to customers, they will examine how a person could get attracted to buy a product, and it will encourage the customers to buy products. The tremendous increase in the online shopping has made the manufactures to work more hours and have the product ready for the consumers. The Covid-19 has given a huge boost in the E-Business. Therefore, now a consumer expects that a small organization would have the online services for the convenience. The increasing demand in the online shopping also demands to have more secure networks to run online transactions and keep their user’s data secure.
- The study’s research questions or hypotheses.
The development of internet technology has provided a huge boost to our lives. It has made our life easier that a person ever could imagine. Nonetheless, any technology or devices have positive and negative aspects. The positive side has given a boost in the online shopping, and the negative side has given a green light to cybercrimes. When a consumer runs a transaction online to purchase the good, they would expect that their personal information will be secure and would not make them in the jeopardy. Nonetheless, because of the many competitors available nowadays, the sellers are giving equal priority to the online security, and they would like to protect their consumers data.
- The types of research methods used.
Field studies and the multimethod research are the research methods used. The field study is prioritized in the article because the cybercrime more relates to the field study. The various examples are given in terms of how methods can be used in the cybercrime. Cyber security field more focuses on the field research and stresses on how to resolve the problem.
- The types of data and analysis done.
The data analysis is done in a qualitative way because elaboration on cybercrime can go long as the data analysis would like to. In the article, information has been clearly described and easy to understand. It is on the point of E-Business which fuels to cybercrimes.
- How concepts discussed in class relate to the article?
Ann’s behavior concept is related to the concept of the article. In the Ann’s behavior, Ann had started doing online shopping than the traditional shopping. Ann was shopping from the website called as www.shoppingcart.com. One day, Ann received a voucher from the shopping cart about discounts. Ann was a loyal customer of the shopping cart, so she thought they have provided the discount to her because she is a loyal customer. Therefore, she filled out the details asked to her including her personal information. A huge amount of money was wiped off from her account within seconds. It was a phishing attack. The article describes the same concept. When we do the online shopping, there may be someone who could be watching us and keeping track of our activities. Eventually, they may figure out where we are spending our time more, so they could take the advantage of the trust to send a discount coupons or vouchers with the phishing link included. Once the information has been given to hackers, they will wipe of all your data and money, and it will be difficult to trace the hacker.
- How the topic relates to the challenges, concerns, and contributions of marginalized groups.
E-Businesses are now facing more challenges nowadays since the significant increase in the use of online shopping. More consumers a company have on their database, more they need to worry about the cybercrimes. When creating a website and allow customers to shop online, would require a good security standard to protect the user’s information. Companies would have consumers personal data including the credit card information as they rely more on online shopping. For example, imagine what would happen if a cyberattack happens on Amazon and takes all users vital data. There are millions of customers who uses Amazon for online shopping. Therefore, it is the responsibility of Amazon to keep the highest level of security, so their user’s data would not be compromised. Nonetheless, if a small company is running a website with low revenue on the market, it would be difficult for them to have the highest level of security. Therefore, it could make an impact on their sales. When the trust is assured from a company regarding the online shopping, it will bring more customers.
- The overall contributions of the studies to society.
We are leaving in the 24/7 word. Everything around us stays active even we take time off. Now, we are more focusing more on work since there is flexibility in the shopping. Now, we could place the orders ahead of time and pick up at our requested time, or have it delivered. E-business has allowed us to spend more time on other things, then spending time on picking items from one place to another. As well it has provided job to workers. In the future, there will be a huge increase in the E-Business as now more sellers have started going online to sell their products to stay competitive in the market. Trust is a pillar of the online shopping. As a consumer when you share your information of goods online, you would want to have your information secured. You cannot share the information with unknown sources. Sometimes, hackers may take the advantage of the trust between you and the seller to occupy data. Nonetheless, E-Business has given a new way to connect people around the globe. Sell items and make money around the globe. Therefore, keep it secure and enjoy the convenience of online shopping with trust.
