College has been a great journey, a time of growth and transformation. Thinking back, my experiences, the lessons I\u2019ve learned, and the obstacles I\u2019ve faced have shaped me into who I am today. My stepping onto campus experience was very different since I started my college journey in 2020 during COVID-19. The academic environment was very different as well and I had to learn online, which was very different for me because I was used to in person courses so oftentimes I found some of my courses truly pushing my intellectual boundaries and it introduced me into new ways of learning and thinking. Once COVID-19 calmed down a bit and society got back to a sense of normalcy the exposure to diverse perspectives from professors and peers was eye opening to me, because I am from Lancaster, Virginia and it is a very small county where everybody basically knows each other, so coming to college and meeting new people was a great experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of class, college became a place of self-exploration. Each interaction, whether it was a casual conversation with a roommate or classmate, it helped me expand my perspectives on things. I made a lot of new friends with people from different backgrounds, each interaction adding to my understanding of life and different cultures. College taught me not only academic knowledge but also a lot of life lessons. One of the most important things I learned was time management. Balancing coursework, social life, and study or doing other things you like is not a small task to handle. Once I got my schedule figured out and properly planned, I started to realize that effective time management was very important to thrive and be successful in college. Another important lesson was the power of being resilient. College isn\u2019t always smooth sailing. There were multiple times when I doubted myself especially when I had coding assignments in CYSE 301. But looking back on it the setbacks are part of the process. Resilience wasn\u2019t about avoiding failure or hard things, it was simply about learning from it, pushing through, and continuing to move forward no matter what. Those moments of learning really became my stepping stones for growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IDS 493 Reflection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking the IDS 493 course has been a rewarding experience in my academic journey. The course provided an opportunity to reflect on my education, extracurricular experiences, and showcase my growth and skills throughout the creation process of my E-portfolio. After sitting down and thinking about it this course has truly helped me create a comprehensive portfolio but also allowed me to improve my digital literacy, professionalism, and better articulate my capabilities as I prepare for life after college. The purpose of the IDS 493 course was to create a platform where I could present my academic journey, experiences, skills, and future goals in an organized and appealing way. To me the E-Portfolio serves both as a reflection tool and professional resource. It truly allowed me to take a step back and look at my time in college, thinking about what I\u2019ve learned, the challenges I have faced and conquered, and how those experiences have shaped my growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking this course has truly given me an opportunity to develop and refine different components of my E-Portfolio.  For example, it has given me the opportunity to assess my growth and achievements in college, my growth, academic artifacts, extracurricular activities, professional experiences, digital literacy, presentation skills, career goals, and professional development. While taking this course I have also come across many challenges. One major challenge I had was trying to organize everything and properly place things so that it shows my growth and capabilities. Creating an Eportfolio required me to carefully pick which projects, papers, assignments, and experiences to showcase, which ultimately led to me constantly changing what best represented my growth and development. There was also the challenge of balancing the creative and simplicity aspects of the portfolio making it visually appealing while still maintaining a very simple and easy to follow portfolio to show a high level of professionalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking the IDS 493 course was an essential course that not only allowed me to reflect on my academic journey but also helped me with the skills to effectively communicate my personal and academic growth. As I move forward into life after college, I now have a valuable tool that will help me stand out and clearly demonstrate my abilities and potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
