It needs to be carefully selected to provide evidence/proof that supports what you are saying in your reflection.

Your reflection will help you determine what that will be. It is a quest for quality. It will represent you academically and professionally, and have personal meaning. It can be written, audio, or video.

At the end, ask yourself if the artifacts best demonstrates your abilities and growth over time.

At the end of your reflection in each section, link or embed the assignment/artifact. For instance, people in Spain might get up around 8:00 am, then go to work from 8:30 am to about 12:00pm. Then, workers take a long break, about two hours to rest (descansar). Around 3:00 pm in the afternoon, workers typically go back to work and stay at work until about 7 to 8 pm at night. The way the rest of the world is going with regard to business, many Spanish-speaking countries have stopped having a traditional routine. Most people in the rural areas have kept to the same culturally same schedule. Workers in the big metropolitan cities usually do not have time to take a long break or rest in between lunch and the afternoon. I would rather work and get my 8 or 9 hours in of work, and then have the rest of the evening off to enjoy family, or hang out with friends. Some of the holidays and fiestas in Spain really are quite neat. For example, dia de Andalucia started with citizens in the community of Andalucia opting for independence on February 28, 1980. During this holiday, government and businesses are closed, and people have parties and private dancing.

My attitude towards holidays and ways of living in Spain really helped me understand the interesting ways that people in Spain live. People in Spanish-speaking countries value time with their family, and friends, and they have a nationalistic pride in their country which is celebrated all throughout the year. In the US, we celebrate special days and holidays, but most of the special days we still have to go to school and work. I had no stereotypical views of Spanish culture due to celebrating some of the holidays which coincide with the Catholic Church’s special holy days. I love the way people in Spanish-speaking countries stop everything and celebrate with grand fiestas and parties. Sometimes, I wish the US would have more of the same happy-go-lucky attitude of the Spanish-speaking countries. It would make life more enjoyable. In the US, it’s all about business and making money, but in Spain, it seems like they can have it all.

Engaging in Communities

Engaging with people, especially, my Spanish-speaking friends and people I meet in society is essential to learning about the different cultures and languages. Also, interacting with people who speak Spanish helps me to hear the different dialects around the area. Being educated about different Spanish cultures and languages broadens my understanding of people in other areas as well as my own community. Immersion into a Spanish-speaking activity helped me understand the Spanish culture and understand the language in real time.

Visiting my Friend’s multi-cultural Hispanic church

Interpersonal Communication

Some activities I participated in were the conversation assignments with my classmate. In conversations 4, my classmate and I had to look at a map of a University and find various places on the map.

I had to create discussion board posts that outlined the culture of different types of Spanish-Speaking countries and their observed holidays. Researching about holidays in Spain was fun and interesting in that, they celebrate more holidays than the US does. I have grown and become more educated about different customs and traditions in Spanish Speaking countries than when I first started the class. What I struggle with is speaking the language. I can speak in simple sentences, but when it comes to long sentences, I get stuck on what to say in Spanish. I don’t automatically think in Spanish. Switching to thinking in Spanish has been difficult for me. Being able to think in Spanish has been a struggle, yet I am only required to speak in simple sentences until I study Spanish 102. Making flashcards to study the vocabulary has helped.

SPA-101-Proyecto-4-notes11132021paDownload

Presentational Speaking

I created projects in Spanish with my classmate.
