SPAN 101

Over the semester I have grown a lot as a Spanish speaker. I learned that foreign language does not come easy and takes time and patience to learn. This class was a big struggle for me because all of the assignments and learning was done online through LingroHub. It was difficult to learn online because not much learning was done in the actual classroom. With LingroHub turning in assignments onetime was a huge struggle. All of the assignments were due at such weird times so it was hard for me to turn them in on time. Because of this I had to get better at my time management not only for this class but my other classes too! Besides struggling to turn my assignments in on time I typically did well on my orals and projects. I would get higher grades on those.

This shows some of my struggles of turning in assignments on time.
These were some of my project grades.

Exploring Culture

The cultural activities in LingroHub were more time demanding but were interesting non the less. For these assignments we had to research different cultures in the Spanish speaking world. My favorite places to research for the cultural activities were Mexico and Honduras.

Engaging in Communities

Engaging with different communities is very important. We did not get to do that in this class because we never left the classroom.

Interpersonal Communication

The activities on LingroHub where I had to talk out loud and record my voice were some of the harder assignments honestly. This was because for me word pronunciation is fairly difficult. Overall it was probably this type of assignment I learned the most form though.

Presentational Speaking

This class had two oral assessments and another one for the final. These were more mentally demanding for me because I had to memorize what I wanted to say and then I had to recall that information and pronounce it correctly. I did learn a lot from the oral exams but they were definitely challenging.

Presentational Writing

This class was not as much writing as it was speaking. The main writing assignments we had were earlier in the semester and they were for the first and third units which were the ones where we introduced ourselves and the one where we talked out our schedules. Writing in Spanish can be difficult and it took me awhile to learn how to word things properly but eventually I started to get the hang of it.

Interpretive Listening

Out of the LingroHub assignments the listening ones were by far my least favorite. They were very challenging for me because not only did I have to listen to what was being said but I would have to fill in the blanks with what I heard and spell those words right too. My main takeaway is that listening exercises are difficult and require a lot of focus. I did learn a bit from the listening assignments but not as much as the oral exercises.
